What Is Craniosacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) was developed following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University by Osteopathic Physician, John E. Upledger.

CST is a gentle hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functionality of the physiological body system known as the Craniosacral System. The Craniosacral System is comprised of the membranes and the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. Get in touch with Cummings Chiropractic and Massage Therapy to book your appointment.

What to Expect:

Therapists use a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, to release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

How Does It Help?

CST compliments the body’s natural healing processes. CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical issues associated with pain and dysfunction, including, but not limited to:

  • Migraine Headaches
  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Motor-Coordination and Impairments
  • Central Nervous System Disorders
  • Scoliosis
  • Autism and Learning Disabilities
  • Emotional Difficulties
  • Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
  • Neurovascular or Immune Disorder
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Post Surgical Dysfunction
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Stress and Tension Related Problems
  • Concussions and Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)

What Is SomatoEmotional Release? (SER)

SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is a therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of Craniosacral Therapy to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma. SER offers applications designed to enhance results using CST and other complementary therapies, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Locating and Releasing Energy Cysts
  • Releasing suppressed emotions that may be inhibiting complete structural releases
  • Working through 10 different body components to assess and mobilize the Avenue of Expression, which includes the thoracic inlet, hard palate and hypoglossal tissues
